Guersan
Nicolas-Augustin Chappuy Guersan, born around 1700 and died in Paris around 1770, was a pupil and later the successor of Claude Pierray. He served as juré-comptable of the luthiers’ guild from 1748 to 1749, and later became dean in 1769. At that time, he lived in the rue des Fossés-Saint-Germain-des-Prés and was a supplier to the Dauphin and the Paris Opera. His work is noted for its impeccable craftsmanship and fine finish, with a small model, finely carved scrolls, and a beautiful alcohol varnish in golden yellow or reddish tones, rather dry and sometimes prone to flaking. Instruments by Guersan can be found in major museums.
