Paul Bailly
Born in Mirecourt and died in Paris. He was a pupil of Jules Gaillard and Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, and a collaborator of Prosper Gérard. After working successively in France, Belgium, and England in London at 86 Wardour Street, then for Harry Dykes in Leeds, and finally in America, he settled permanently in Paris in 1898, on rue de Grenelle. He copied instruments from many different schools, but especially the Stradivarian model. According to labels attributed to Paul Bailly, he was awarded gold, vermeil, and silver medals at competitions in Paris, Sydney, and Melbourne. After the death of Paul Bailly in 1907, his daughter Jenny took over the workshop.
